From CAPS:

“Circus Mondao moved on due to lack of planning permission.

Fulwood Asda Store in Preston has cancelled Circus Mondao performances which were due to take place on it’s car park tomorrow until Sunday this week.

After being in touch with Preston City Council we can now confirm that the store has asked the circus to leave due to a lack of planning permission.

Despite a ‘temporary events notice’ being held by the circus, it appears a number of customer complaints and correspondence with both the council and local animal activists has led the store to change its mind.

We’re grateful to everyone for their support on this one and are very pleased!”

***If you know anyone who was planning to attend any of the demonstrations please let them know!***

MAA are proud to be signed up as part of the Animal Liberation Hallmarks.

Animal Liberation Hallmarks

1) Unequivocal rejection of all speciesism and exploitation of non-human animals, including but not limited to the use (breeding, detention and killing) of animals for food, human entertainment, experimentation and clothing.

2) Unequivocal rejection of all forms of domination, exploitation and discrimination against humans, based upon arbitrary distinctions such as gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and religious belief.

3) Mutual recognition of the various forms of activism and resistance.

Purpose of the Animal Liberation Hallmarks
The Animal Liberation Hallmarks provide a platform for groups and individuals that perceive animal liberation as a movement for liberation of both human and non-human animals and wish to exclude racist, sexist, homophobic and religious fundamentalist groups and individuals and to prevent infiltration by such elements.

Boycott Flannels , MAA, MAR and whole load of people across the UK have been working hard at urging Flannels to commit to no longer selling fur, and today they agreed!

Flannels can confirm we will not continue to sell fur products now or in the future and will engage in becoming a fur free company.

Good news!

Fabric of Monton, who were selling fur have now stopped selling fur! Woot.

MAA have been advised that having been contacted by people concerned with the abusive nature of the fur industry Fabric are now taking an ethical stance against selling fur.

Well done Fabric!

First things first…sorry the blog has been quiet for a while. There are loads of reasons but anyway…MAA apologise for the radio silence!

That said, Sunday October 2nd sees it all happening on the streets of Manchester.

Tory Protest Manchester

——————————————————————–
Sunday 2nd October is the first day of the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester. Groups/causes of all kinds will be marching against the Tory Conference.

Many hundreds of animal rights/wildlife campaigners are expected to march against the repeal of the hunting act, against the badger cull & for a wild animal circus ban (amongst other things!)

CAPS is organising a march in Manchester to raise awareness of the plight of wild animals in circuses. Despite overhwelming public and political support, and a House of Commons motion passing unanimously earlier this year calling for a ban, the Government has failed to protect these animals. Defra are instead opting for a system for regulation which will not only fail to protect the wild animals currently in circuses, but will also allow new animals to be introduced in the future.

Please note that the assembly point for these marches has changed to 12noon at Liverpool Road (off Deansgate), Manchester M3 4JR. This is a 10 minute walk from the train stations at Piccadilly, Victoria, and Oxford Rd. The coach drop coach drop off near by on Water St, Manchester M3 4JU.

Tory Protest Manchester

On Saturday MAA were contacted to help with an injured bird. This is the 3rd time in recent weeks. (Saturday was not as dazzling as previous escapades as no trees needed climbing Spidey style!)
In the end all that was needed was a quick drive over to Lower Moss Wood to let the nice people at the animal hospital deal with the gobby little blackbird.
Updates on his progress to follow.

Thanks to the lovely man that called us!

Just across Snake Pass the people of Sheffield are continuing their hard work, with a dedicated site launched campaigning against the University of Sheffield’s and Sheffield Hallam’s use of animals in vivisection.

The normal Saturday meeting in ‘On the 8th Day’ cafe, Oxford Road is likely to be cancelled due to the group going to Highgate rabbit farm for a demo.  Please text the MAA number which is on the homepage of the MAA blog for further info…

If a young greyhound doesn’t make the grade it is killed

As planed MAA joined the lovely folk of GreyhoundAction at Belle Vue this Saturday 09th May, to educate members of the public visiting the races that by supporting greyhound racing they are supporting the deaths of thousands of greyhounds every year.

The demonstration was extremely informative to many members of the public, as they were unaware of the fate of the dogs they were going to watch. Many Stag/Hen parties and groups of work colleagues wished they’d chosen a more cruelty free event and promised never to return.

50% OF GREYHOUND PUPS BORN ARE KILLED BECAUSE THEY ARE NO GOOD FOR RACING

50% OF GREYHOUND PUPS BORN ARE KILLED BECAUSE THEY ARE NO GOOD FOR RACING

Unfortunately it still seems hard for people to grasp the idea that it’s not just the ones on the track that suffer.  Approximately 15,000 young greyhounds are killed each year before they even reach the races, as they are seen as unsuitable for the British greyhound industry. They’re lives are cut short as they run to slow or show little interest in chasing prey.

The more people that realise the industry is fatally flawed every step of the way – be it from the breeders, the owners, the trainers, the racing tracks and the people who actually do the killing of the greyhounds: the sooner this industry will come to a halt.

Our time at the demonstrations are worth every second and I believe are having a huge effect. Come along and join us (MAA) and GreyhoundAction – we are a friendly bunch and happy to help with transport if needed.
