MAA campaigns extensively against the fur trade. The arguments against the fur trade are exhaustive and many. They will not be gone into here – instead please see the resources of CAFT (Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade).
FAQs
Why do MAA do so much fur camapigning in Manchester?
Sadly we are awash with shops selling fur!
Not as many as in London where you seemingly cannot walk down the street without bumping into a fur shop, but we unfourtunately hold our own in the fur stakes.
Why do we campaign against fur but not leather?
Both are a problem, but leather is more normalised in people’s minds. Also (if this is a valid argument) fur is not a parallel product of the meat trade, but rather the animals are killed exclusively for their fur.
What can be done to help?
If you see fur for sale please contact us here at MAA or contact CAFT.
Join us for a demo! – check what we are up to here.
Contact the shop! Businesses want to hear from their customers.
They have emails, phonenumbers, twitter accounts, facebook pages – all advertised far and wide. Do what they want and get in touch!
Which shops don’t sell fur?
Loads. It’s much easier to ask which shops do sell fur!
A very small example list of fur free businesses in Manchester: Flannels, Junkshop, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, TopShop, Cow, Debenhams, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, T K Maxx, Vivienne Westwood…the list goes on and on.
Please see the FurFreeManchester site for more details.
